Meet Blake and Sarah! They are getting married next March, and I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be able to go because my due date is a little over a week before the wedding. Maybe this kicking baby will want to come early :)

We went to the IMA and downtown on the circle (where Blake proposed, awww!) and had a blast taking pictures and getting in trouble from IMA security guards...oops.

So happy for you both!!

Kitchen Remodel

Well hello there blog! I can't believe it's been three months since my last post. Since my last post, our 20 year old water heater started leaking. We didn't notice it soon enough, and it spread under the laminate floor we had in our kitchen and caused it to wrinkle up. Remodeling the kitchen was always in our plans with this house, but definitely not this soon. After just finishing the new living room, the carpet, the craft room (I could go on and on!) we were excited about a break in the home repair. But no, not in the plans apparently. So, the kitchen remodel started. We kept our cabinets, which are still in decent shape, but decided to update the appliances, counter tops, paint and trim...and floors, of course. As always, we had a lot of help from our family. A big thank you to my dad, for helping with the water heater and also my father-in-law, who never misses the chance to rip up something else in our house :)

Here is the floor that was ruined by the water heater. It's a little hard to see in the picture, but look close...water damage!

So, there it is!! Ryan and I are both so happy with how it turned out. Ryan was iffy on the "white kitchen" before we started, but I think his mind has changed now :)

Some other news that has happened since my last post is that I'm pregnant! The due date is March 19th, which puts me at 19 weeks at the end of this week. We go to the doctor this Thursday to find out if it's a boy or a girl and couldn't be more excited! I've started another blog that will sorta be our family/pregnancy blog. Also, I've taken TONS of pictures since my last post, I'll get those posted soon too!

Stray Puppy Update

**UPDATE**
It seems that something fell through with Poncho getting adopted, so he is still looking for a home :( I received word from another volunteer that he's doing just fine though! But let's get him a forever home!!

They've both been adopted!! The boy pup, Poncho, is being picked up this morning. And as I mentioned in my previous post, the girl, "Janie", was adopted over the weekend. I found out Saturday night that is was one of Morgan's blog readers who adopted Janie! Morgan, I can't thank you enough for helping by posting on your blog :)

FLOYD!!

I can't help it...every time I say his name, it has to be in all caps. FLOYD!! is the cutest basset hound puppy ever. Hands down, there is no arguing here people. His ears are the softest ears in the world, and his chubby paws...ugh, I love them. Sorry for all the pictures, I couldn't trim it down anymore!!

I mean, how does this not melt your heart??!!

Stray puppy update: I ended up taking the puppies to the Humane Society last friday, it was so hard to leave them there, I would have loved to have kept them, but I knew that the Humane Society would get them all ready to be adopted by a loving family. On Friday, I checked the website and the little boy puppy (who we ended up calling Pancho, not Lefty) was on the site, ready to be adopted and that the girl puppy was already on hold by a family who wanted to adopt her!! That, obviously, made me so happy :) So keep your fingers crossed that Panocho finds a family soon!!

Driving home from work today I saw these sweet puppies hanging out on the side of the road!! There was a car with a family inside right next too them, so I pulled over and asked if they were their dogs. They said no, but the puppies had been following their kids around for the past couple days. I'm not really sure if I believed this story, but after I asked if they were strays, if I could take them to my vet, they said yes. So in the car they went! They are both a little beat up, some scrapes and missing hair, but they are both clean and full of food now :) We're going to call ARPO tomorrow, and hopefully they can help find these sweet faces a good home!!

Jane and Tim - The Wedding

My first wedding!! When Jane asked me to take her wedding pictures, I was pretty nervous, but also beyond thrilled. As I mentioned before, Jane has been a friend of mine since high school and I was so happy to be a part of her day! Jane and Tim were married in Leland, Michigan and although there were a few pretty heavy rain showers before the ceremony, the rest of the day was absolutely beautiful.

I've never had to edit this many pictures before, so Jane and Tim, please be patient :) But I wanted to go ahead and share a few of the ones I've edited so far:

My friends and I went down to Nashville to see one of our friends a couple weekends ago and had an absolute blast! I'm not sure I know anyone else other than my friend Leigh Ann who could handle the stress of 13 crazy girls staying in their house, sprawled out on air mattresses and couches. I've been running with the dogs after work this week. I'm not sure if it's the nice weather that's finally motivating me, or the Gentle Leaders that both dogs are wearing now and are WONDERFUL on walks! Here is Crosley laying in the lovely mud spot in our backyard after our run, it must be cooler than regular grass, or else he just likes to get dirty:

And on the home renovation front, my craft room is finally somewhat organized!! I got my desk and sewing machine set up, and folded and stored all my fabric...the rest is still a mess, and we still need trim in the whole room, but I don't care, I can sew again!

This warmer weather we've had the past few days has been wonderful, I just hope it lasts! Checked out the back yard yesterday, and oh my goodness, the dogs have destroyed it, Ryan and I have a lot of yard work to do this spring! Warmer weather also means muddy puppy paws...and that's not a good combination with new carpet covering 80% of our house!

Weekend Work

We've had quite a busy weekend so far! Didn't start out so great for me though, I woke up Thursday morning with the flu and I'm just now starting to feel better...thank goodness for in-laws who come to help move furniture!! The carpet was installed Friday without a hitch and it looks awesome, the craft room is an entirely different room (I'll show pictures later when it's all set up, right now it's full of CRAP...again). We had to remove the carpet and patch up some saggy spots in the living room, and when we did, we found that the sub floor was basically pressed cardboard. So, we decided to just take it all out!! What a pain...so many nails (we filled two large McDonalds cups with nails), and it came up in little pieces:

Here it is with the new sub floor. And outside, you can see 9 jumbo sized trash bags full of stupid pressed cardboard ready to go to the curb:

And onto a happy picture...OUR NEW LIVING ROOM!!! Ryan's enjoying his first cup of coffee, watching a Sham-Wow commercial. It's not at all finished yet, and these couches will go back into our front room once that is finished, but I just wanted to get a picture on here of how it's coming along :)

goodbye ugly heater!

Here is the ugly heater that was hidden behind our piano in the old rec room. We've never used it, and never even wanted to. It went through the wall to the outside of the house, so when we first moved it, we didn't want to mess with it. But now, it had to go!

Jumping Dog has a new skill...

Friday on the way home from work I decided I was going to try to get some pictures of the dogs since it's staying lighter longer. So I get home, dodge the dogs claws while they are jumping up to say hello, grab my camera and head out the back door with the dogs. They wrestle for a bit right outside the door, and then they take off down the deck. I follow them down, only to realize that Larkin is not going to make the turn to get to the steps...he's going straight for the ledge! I quickly hold up my camera and push the shutter right as he's in mid-air (which is why this photo is crazy blurry). Check out the blur in the red circle:

I ran into show Ryan the picture on my camera and we just started cracking up. We always knew Larkin was a nut, but this just makes him that much nuttier! We both think it's his short cut to get away from his older brother. I got him to jump off again today while I was standing there, but my mission is to get an awesome, mid-flight shot of him from underneath...probably will wait for warmer weather though :)

Ryan and I are finishing up painting the back two rooms tonight (he's painting ceilings right now, I'm hiding at the computer pretending to do important work). Carpet comes Friday!!

We Like Green

So, apparently, Ryan and I like green...a lot. Not only did we choose to paint the entire outside of our house green, we now have 4 rooms within our house that are some shade of green! But, I like shades of green. They can be calming, like our master bathroom, or energizing like our kitchen. Last night we started painting the third bedroom/craft room. I had picked out paint samples from Restoration Hardware and had them matched at Lowes, all along thinking the paint for the bedroom was more of a blue. Welp, as soon as we had that first roll of paint on it, Ryan looked over to me and says "um, this is green." I tried to play it off as long as I could saying "what are you talking about, it's so blue" but all along thinking "dang it, did I really pick out another green?!" In the end though, I think it's a pleasant blue/green mix. And so what if it is green! It's my craft room and I like it :)

House Update #458

Ok, so it's not really update #458, but it feels like it! Our bathroom is finished, so now we've moved back to working on the back part of our house. The craft room is drywalled, primed and ready to be painted and carpeted. Now we're getting the rec room ready to be painted and carpeted. We had our awesome drywall crew come and patch up the popcorn ceiling and the hole that my father in law fell through. Drywall dust is my nemesis, I can't stand it and it stresses me out, so this time I tried my best to keep it contained...and it might have worked...

So after the drywall was up on the ceiling, we got the carpet out, and this is how it looks now. I noticed this morning when I let the dogs out that there is an echo in there...pretty crazy. I also noticed that this is a great surface for tap dancing, if only I had some tap shoes, Ryan would loooove that!

The dogs are definitely taking advantage of having extra couches in all sorts of odd places, like this one, in our dining room/kitchen area. Please don't judge me on the condition of this couch, I'm almost embarrassed to post these pictures!! It normally has a cover on it, I promise.

I almost can't deal with Larkin's wrinkles, so precious.

This picture seems pretty peaceful to me...if you could only see whats hiding inches out of the frame :) More updates to come!

Since today was a snow day, I finally got around to taking some pictures of the finished bathroom. Well, I'd say it's 99% finished, still a few minor things to fix up, but those are things you can't see in the pictures :) Shower curtain is temporary, we plan on getting a sliding glass door at some point, but for now, that will do the job!

Before Christmas, my aunt had me sneak some pictures of my uncles dogs...she had him in the family Christmas draw and wanted to give him some pictures of their dog Clint, and their new Akita puppy, Jade. Clint was such a ham for the camera, and Jade might be one of the cutest puppies in the world!

Lots of mud around here lately, crazy Indiana weather. Since our bathtub is out of commission right now, it's been fun using wet towels to wipe the dogs down after they've been outside...this is a collection of just TWO DAYS!

You can't get too upset though, when later you catch them snuggling on the bed together :)

Bathroom Vanity

Got the vanity and countertop set today. It's so much taller than our last one, and I love it! It's also the same as our neighbors...hope they don't mind :)

We went to Lowes today to return a bunch of things we ended up not using. We had a stack of 18 different receipts from the past week and a half!! We're such good customers, they're sending us a gift card, so we can spend even more money there!

House Update

A recap of the weekend:

While re-drywalling the craft room, and starting from scratch on the master bathroom, my husband, Ryan, also wanted to get our attic insulated. We had someone come out to check our heater because, as I mentioned before, the back of the house is a lot colder than the rest of the house. Apparently, our attic had about three inches of insulation, compared to the sixteen or so inches that is code...oops. So Saturday while I was priming and painting my rear off, Ryan and my father-in-law took on the task of insulating the attic. Of course, we ran into unexpected things, like finding out that the heating ducts weren't really attached to the vents, meaning we were heating our attic these past three years! Here are a couple of pictures of the attic...the pink stuff is the new insulation, the beige colored stuff is the old:

Oh, and here is a picture of the hole where my father-in-law fell through the ceiling...yep, fell through. This little section of dry wall wasn't installed properly, the previous owners took the easy way out, and decided not to tape and mud the drywall...we've come to notice that the previous owners took the easy way out on A LOT of things in this house. Back to the hole in the ceiling...everything was ok, my father-in-law, being the stud that he is, caught himself before really falling on to the pile of crap that was beneath him :)

Now back to the bathroom, here is the tile pre-grout:

Bathroom Remodel

It's master bathroom remodel time! Nope, craft room isn't finished yet...the drywall is up and ready to be primed, but why do that and finish a room when you can start an entirely new project?! My wonderful father-in-law took a week off of work to come help my husband with our master bathroom. We're completely, 100% starting from scratch on this, and it's going to look awesome when it's done!

We just finished with dinner, and since I started writing this post they've already mixed up the mortar and have started with the tile on the floor. More pictures later!

"Non-Dog Related/My Husband Might Kill Me" post :)

To start off, here is a little history about our house. My husband and I bought our house in September of 2005. It was our first home, and we didn't care how much work we had to put into it (maybe because we knew in the back of our minds that Ryan's family was coming up on day one to help!). Every room was painted, new carpet put down in the back rec room, replaced the floor in the laundry room then topped it off with a new tile floor, and most importantly, removed the collection of forks that was VELCROED to the wall in the kitchen...yes, you read that correctly...velcroed.

It seems like we are always doing something to our house at any given time. Most recently it was freshening up the exterior with new windows, fiber cement siding to replace the awful patchwork of cedar shingles, and a brand new paint color. Before that it was landscaping (thanks again to the in-laws help) and before that the addition of a new bathroom (once again, with lots of help from the in-laws!).

One room we didn't really touch was the third bedroom in the very back of the house. About 20 years ago, the garage of the house was converted into a large living room and a third bedroom was added to the back. It had white, warped wood paneling and lovely brown astro-turf for carpet. It's a cold room in the winter, and hot as heck in the summer but worked great for me as a craft room. One weekend while I was at a trade show for work, Ryan (and his wonderful mother...the in-laws, again!) completely surprised me with a new paint job and a clean up/organization for the craft room. I LOVED it. Here is the craft room door from the rec room (oops, there's Crosley):

And here is what it looked like after the re-vamp...look at this organization...too bad it never looked like this again after that day :)

Even the old, half broken bookshelf got a new paint job and new accessories! That painting right there is another story, I started that maybe 4 years ago, it was going to be a present for my dad, but I never finished it because I'm scared of painting eyes...ha!

So, now it's demolition time again. As I mentioned earlier, this room is COLD in the winter, so we (when I say "we" of course I mean Ryan and his father) tore out all of the walls, trashed the astro-turf, found evidence of the squirrels we kept hearing in the walls, and put in some new insulation. Here is my craft room now:

Now, here comes the "My Husband Might Kill Me" part of the post. Ryan hates it when people see our house in a mess, even when it's clear that we are doing some remodeling. So, just for him (love you, dear), here is what our rec room looks like right now :)

I could spend hours pointing out things that could be thrown away, unfinished projects (my friend Hillie's shirt hanging on the chair) and things that I haven't seen in a few years...but I'll save that for another post :)

The Jumping Dog Experiment

Inspired by the jumping picture of Blu from a couple posts back, I took my dogs outside the other day to try to get some pictures of them jumping...well, it's a lot harder with only one person! I'm sure my neighbors had a kick seeing me holding a stick in the air with one hand, but bending down and stretching my other arm out enough so I can hold my camera close to the ground. I might actually consider it a work out :)

So, after weeks, months maybe, of taking a ridiculous amount of pictures of my two dogs, I believe they are finally starting to "pose" for me!

I am beginning the process of building up a portfolio, which will hopefully lead to a real website, which will hopefully then lead to a successful side business for me! I graduated school with a general art major, focusing on photography and painting, and have always wanted to follow my dreams of being a photographer. Photography has been on the back burner since graduating, but I have really felt an itch to get back into it lately, especially with photographing animals. So, the goal is to get all these ideas that are floating around in my head organized...and then roll with it :) Thanks to all the inspirational photographers out there who have helped me remember how much I love photography!

* this also means there will be quiet a few more pictures of my dogs showing up, especially since they are willing participants now :)

You wouldn't think this little guy has a ferocious bark, but he does! Yoda is one of my boss's three dogs that she brings in to work everyday. When he was just a puppy he would sleep in a bike basket that was attached to my desk drawer! Left my desk today to grab a couple shots of the three dogs, but Yoda was the only one who wanted his picture taken...

The 54th and Monon Art Fair was so much fun, even though it rained for 4 of the 6 hours! I got great feedback and compliments, and am excited with new ideas that I just need to find the time for. Here is how my business card ended up:

I edited out my phone number...not quite sure who else reads my blog besides family, but I thought I'd be safe :)

Since getting ready for the art fair, and doing some digital design work for myself and some others, I've become more interested in what I can do with the limited Photoshop skills that I have. Here is something I'm playing around with right now:

I thought I'd try out some embroidery for a onesie, which is still waiting to be made. I've seen so many neat ways to use embroidery with sewing, and hopefully this will turn out how I have it pictured in my head.

We finally got our new shower door installed! The remodeling started last April (yes, that was a full year ago...oops) but now we're one step closer to finishing...just a few minor details.

My aunt got married last May, and she had asked me to take a few pictures for her, and I finally got around to doing some fun editing to them. It was a beautiful day, and of course a beautiful bride!

...but lately, it's become an "I love my dog" blog :) I always intended this to be a place and source of motivation for me to show whatever craftiness I was working on. So, this weekend I decided to give my sewing machine some lovin'. Miss Shelly, over at Flipt, has been my motivation recently, so I thank you for that!!

The log cabin pillow is old, and I still have one more small one I want to make with another fabric, but I think it's a change for the better...a little more exciting. Good bye boring pillows :)

Couldn't decide what grouping I liked better, so I decided to just go with both...even though my husband just walked up behind me and said "you're using the same effect on all of them"...I told him that was the point :) These were out on a golf course on Easter morning, the dog loved it!

This is how my goofy friends and I celebrate the Colts winning the Super Bowl, yes, we are a little intoxicated.

And this is what my fabulous husband surprised me with while I was in Atlanta for work...

...he painted, cleaned, organized and hung up all of my pictures! Now that I have a clean space to work in, hopefully I'll get around to some more sewing and crafts. Here is one thing I accomplished though, a birthday purse for my sister.

I finally got back to my craft room, a semi clean craft room, and tried to make a small case for my new camera. Failed...both tries...but at least I had my cute little helper to keep me company :)

Thanksgiving Weekend

Spent the weekend in Madison with the in-laws...I think I grew 8 inches from eating. That's all we did, eat, then I made a pillow, then ate more, watched some tv, then ate! Came home Saturday and put up our tree which remained intact for two days until the dog got a hold of all the ornaments on the bottom of the tree! How can you be mad at such a cute dog though?!

This is my precious puppy Crosley...a surprise from my husband 3 months ago. We got him from a shelter that informed us that he was a "crack puppy", meaning they found him and his mom outside of a crack house here in Indy. After about a month of rice and cottage cheese (stomach issues) he finally started gaining some weight. Now he's just our crazy hyper dog!

I've been at home all day so we've been taking walks and hanging out!

Here is the finished pillow, front and back. Took me long enough but I'm very happy with it. I made another one for a co-worker, but didn't get a picture of it before I gave it to her. I'm taking tomorrow off work and I'm going to start a purse my mom wants me to make out of vintage Lily Pulitzer patches...we'll see how that goes!

The inspiration to do this came from A Bird In The Hand I love all of her pillows and crafts and pretty much everything that she does. So this is the first attempt! I met with a florist last week about the flowers for my wedding and i'm so pumped because i am going to be able to have peonies for my bouquet!! Alright, I had to have my coworker Amy help me with posting a picture, so that's me right below, hello! That picture is from tailgaiting with my little brother, it was cold, hence the big furry "shitter's full" hat. Anyway, my computer is messed up right now, I can't download the pictures that i wanted to put on here to get this blog started, and even if I wanted to, I probably wouldn't be able to figure it out anyways and have to get Amy to help me again.

I've seen alot of blogs out there that have really inspired me to be creative, and to make time to sew, or make stationery, etc. So, hopefully (once i learn how to use a computer and camera) i'll be able to show what i've done, and what inspires me...this could be fun!!
